Nearly a Century of Community

In 1926 in the heart of Ince-in-Makerfield, Wigan, a rugby team was formed. What started as a local rugby league club has grown into one of the most inclusive, welcoming, and active community sports clubs in Greater Manchester.

In 2001, Ince Rose Bridge Sports and Community Club was formed — bringing together Rose Bridge Open Age Rugby League, Ince St Williams Junior Rugby, and Ince Bowling Club under one roof.

We're a registered charity (No. 1211303), which means every penny that comes through our doors goes straight back into the club, the teams, and the community. There are no shareholders, no directors taking dividends — just people who care about this place and what it means to Ince.

Whether you're a player, a parent on the sideline, a local popping in for a quiet pint midweek, or someone looking for the perfect venue for a wedding or party — The Bridge is your place. It always has been.

Rugby league in Ince begins.
2001 — The Club is Born
Formed from the merger of Rose Bridge ARLFC, St Williams ARLFC, and Ince Bowling Club, Ince Rose Bridge Sports and Community Club was born. A funded project began in October 2001 with over £700k allocated to build and enhance facilities at Pinfold Street.
The Dome Opens
A massive indoor venue with full-size astroturf pitch opens on site, giving the community a space unlike anything else in Wigan.
Growing the Family
Youth teams, the Pantheresses girls section, masters rugby, and the LDRL join the club. Ince Rose Bridge becomes a true multi-sport, multi-generation organisation.
2024
Ince Rose Bridge becomes a registered charity and legal entity — formalising the club's commitment to community sport and reinvestment.
2025
Ince Rose Bridge wins the Believe Club of the Year Award — recognition of everything the club means to its community.
2026 — A New Home
Confirmation of a new site following nearly six years of work. The Rose Bridge School field (Imperial Field), over five times larger than the current Pinfold Street site, was secured with the lease officially signed. Wigan Council issued a public press release, and grant funding was confirmed through the FA Home Advantage Project and the Pride in Place Impact Fund to support site development.

Built on Six Pillars

Everything we do comes back to these core beliefs. They're not just words on a wall — they're how we run this club, every single day.

Inclusion

Everyone is welcome at The Bridge. Every age, every ability, every background. No exceptions.

Community

We're not just a sports club. We're a meeting place, a social hub, and a second home for hundreds of people in Ince.

Grassroots Sport

From Mini Bridgers learning to pass for the first time to open age players competing every weekend — grassroots sport is our DNA.

Charity First

We're a registered charity. Every penny goes back into the club, the teams, and the community we serve.

Accessibility

Learning disability rugby league, disabled access, inclusive coaching. We actively remove barriers so everyone can take part.

Opportunity

Volunteering, coaching qualifications, leadership skills. The Bridge gives people a chance to grow — not just as athletes, but as people.

Two venues that host everything from DJ nights to car shows. And something new on the horizon. There's genuinely something for everyone here.

More Than Just Sport

Ince Rose Bridge is a community hub in Wigan. On any given week you'll find scout groups, social nights, quiz nights, live music, community meetings, and locals just having a brew and a catch-up. The Clubhouse bar is open to everyone — members and non-members alike.

We believe that a community club should be exactly that — for the community. Whether you've lived in Ince your whole life or you've just moved to the area, you're welcome here. Pop in. Have a drink. See what's going on. You'll find out pretty quickly why people call this place home.
